At photokina I think I'll suggest a new, slow, pancake wide-angle that can be left on the body all day, all week: a Color-Skopar 24/7...

Cheers,

R.

Sorry, Keith. The joke probably works best for those whose native language is American, not English or Strine.

Frances suggests a 24/5 and something else for the weekends. A 48/2, perhaps?

Cheers,

R.

If it was an Elmar it would be 24.2/7.2 ... because you always get that little bit extra with Leica! :p

Nice one... Well, it may be a joke, but perhaps ask him to ask Zeiss for a ZM 25 f4! I am surprised with the 21 4.5 and Leica's 24 3.8 they have left this gap.

I loved my Ektar 203 f7.7 even if it had a silly aperture. Wish I had never sold it.

I just picked up one of these Ektars. No aperture scale, though. Need to create one some how, maybe by mounting and spot metering through a DSLR in A mode, and marking every time the shutter speed changes by a stop?

Anyway...I never liked the strict adherance to 'standard' focal lengths and relative apertures, espeically for SLR lenses. Pentax Limited AF primes are the only recent exception. Consider the case of the 50mm f1.4 and 35mm f1.4 lenses in a given manufacturer's line-up. Traditionally, the former would be a reasonably-priced lens, and the latter a more exotic expensive lens. In trying to hit the two benchmarks of 35mm and f1.4, they have to pull out all the stops. Sure, go wider than 50, and keep it fast, but compromise a little on the numbers on both counts and you might be able to design a lens with better performance at a better price, a 38mm f1.6, or somethng.

Oh wait...the AR Hexanon 40mm f1.8....that's a pretty good example!

Next wish from Voigtlander? Hmm. A collapsible 35mm f2. Or a really compact 28mm f2.5.

hah ha! Or LOL if you're GenY.

24/7 might be a bit hard to stick with all year...so maybe a 48/52?

(lovely, a joke for my 5 year anniversary and 500th post. Whoopee!)
