A reader on the Steve Huff site came across this notice from Crutchfield... "discontinued"
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-VlNo0gBrFyF/p_072X100/Fujifilm-FinePix-X100.html
There are a lot of ways to interpret this given that the x100 has been priced down to 999 on several sites.
- they are sold out of their existing inventory and do not plan to restock it or the next gen x100 is just around the corner
Gary
PS - B&h still has it at 999 but the black version has not dropped in price

Let's hope the next version has better zone focusing support.

It already has zone focus support in the way of the focus scale and the changing white color bar to indicate depth at that f stop... In the display area at the bottom of the ovf/evf? It is not there by default. U need to cycle thru to the custom display info.
What is the additional zone focusing support u seek?
Cheers

I was hoping they'd make the lens a stop faster, to compensate the crop factor a bit and get a tas shallower dof... well, i still am!
better af and higher iso iq sould be enough to make me want to upgrade though, if it's slimmer (which would be unlikely with a lens upgrade) i'd love it too.

Just need a simple DOF scale on the lens barrel.

X200.. X100s.. When!
X200.. X100s.. When!
If Fuji announces new X series cameras on Jan 7, any guesses when first deliveries (for pre-orders) might happen? I'm looking at new cameras, and absolutely whatever camera I buy in hand April 3rd. My guess is that a camera announced Jan 7 likely would not be available by then. Anyone have a more informed guess?

Yeah, that's my wish as well, but: Using a DOF scale requires the focusing ring to have focus distance markings on it, which requires physical focus linkage, rather than pure fly-by-wire where the focus ring keeps turning in both directions. So Fuji would have to completely redesign their manual focus system just to simply add a DOF scale to the lens barrel. I'm not holding my breath, alas.

A "rangefinder-like focusing gimmick" is presented as one of the possible features of the X100s. This is all rumors at this point but it does sound intriguing (notwithstanding the use of the word gimmick).

I hope that is true. For that to work well, they will have had to much improve the manual focusing.

Great, then we can hear the bitching and complaing of either 1) they didn't implement it correctly or 2) when is the M mount version coming ...

see, you put these special mirrors in. they're made of rare earth alloys. and they, like, magnify light. and stuff. and then, see, you can, like, see in really low light. they're definitely coming in the M12. definitely.
