A new x100?

Fuji continues to impress with the X line cameras (even if only some of these rumors pan out). They are really shaking things up in the digital camera industry.

In my humble opinion, they still have some catching up to do on the QC side of things (though even some of the bigger brands have had QC problems recently) and on firmware design. But, still, my hat's very much off to them.

EDIT: Also, with the upcoming Capture 1 version supposedly demonstrating that handling Xtrans RAW files is doable, I think Adobe will eventually catch up.

It seems like raw processing is likely on it way with all the hoopla over capture one beta release.

I'm beta testing C1P. It is indeed outstanding.

But what Phase One can do, so can Adobe. And Lightroom 5 is imminent. So I think the answer is just to stay tuned...

Well....I will be in Las Vegas on Monday Jan 7 for the Press Days of "CES" show and also attending the Fuji press conference on photographic products and technology. I got an invitation out of the blue late this week. Should be very interesting. I will share and also be writing a story about Fuji's growing influence.

anyone know how that compares to the AF speed of the original x100?

i'm also very excited to see what this digital split screen focusing thing is.

Very hard to say; some tests put the existing AF at around 0.4 seconds, but that obviously depends on how you measure. Personally, I find that AF speed can vary widely; sometimes on the same subjects. I can't imagine pressing a shutter button to half-way in 0.08 seconds.

What will be the complaints about this future model?

Well, maybe the rumours are inaccurate but for me the big dissapointment is the unchanged body. It's a lovely body, I'm not asking for much, just remove that crappy slider switch for focus mode and a better 'wheel' on the back. It's not like they don't know what to do; just copy from the X10/XPro1.
Trying out a XE in Jessops a few weeks ago, it seems manual focus improvement is possible, also the XE has a better EVF.
Xtrans sensor? I don''t mind, but the X100 has a microlens arrangement to match the sensor to the 23mm lens, so maybe not so easy as a drop in replacement from the parts bin.
I await official news, with interest, but not anticipation of the comming of the one-true 'perfect' camera.

Lots to look forward to for both X100 and XE/XP users - I imagine the higher end models will get firmware updates for peaking, and then the replacements for them should be cracking with the improved AF.

Lots to be happy about there.
Wonder what the street price will be.

Whatever it is I think I shall wait a year or two. What I have works well enough for me, I shall use it until it is thouroughly worn secure in the knowledge that I can then get another one which is no worse than what I have. (Well, I consider the 'Artistic Photography' feature of the 's' a retrograde step, but like shutter sounds the toys for idiots dont have to be used.)

Yeh, that is basically how I feel (I got my X100 about 6 weeks ago !). Won't get an upgrade until it will make my life better 😀

That split image feature sounds very interesting ! !
Focus peaking ? . . . . mehhh

Well... I want one, but I will probably wait a year or so, I think my next camera will be the X-Pro2, I do love my X100, and adding a few nice things wont change that. It is great to see the innovation though, and I am glad the name has stuck, X200... nah

Can focus peaking abilities be introduced through firmware revisions? No hardware changes involved? If that is so, that would be great!

Yep, peaking is a software thing, for example the third party Magic Lantern firmware adds it to Canon DSLRs that have live view.

Sales should be brisk, but will you benefit from all the incremental tweaks? I think that the faster autofocus is the big news. Lower noise and higher resolution are nice, but the 100 is not really wanting.

Split screen can't be an X100 update since this requires PDA.

It looks like you can reuse your lens hood.

Will my X100 half-case fit the 100S?
