A pancake for the Z7!

While I'm waiting for the 250lb .95 behemoth, I'm using this pancake! 😉








Ignoring for a sec putting on a low fi Russian lens onto to a 47mp latest and greatest, it actually works better than on my 24mp Leica! On that camera there was far more smearing in the corners, and magenta colour shifts.
So there is that..

Pretty cool Huss. Can't wait to see how the Leica M lenses work on that Z7 (in particular the wide lenses). Might be the solution I've been looking for.

That is a neat combo. I love odd adapted lenses. Don't have any mirrorless myself but my Olympus Pen F half frame has a 28.95mm flange distance and if I can mount it I'll shoot it.

Akshully all I've used this camera for so far apart from a little testing is scanning film. But with this lens, this camera does much better than my M240. On the Leica there is severe smearing on the edges and a magenta cast. But that is only this lens, different lenses behave differently.

For other wides what I have seen so far, the Leica still works better.

That's exactly what I wanted to see. Can't say I'm not disappointed, hoped the Z7 was going to make the Leica digital cameras obsolete for my needs. Doesn't look like that is the situation.

My un-educated guess is that the higher pixel count in the same physical space would yield that sort of result. Perhaps when get get to 125mp in a 35mm FF sensor a lot of old glass might be very usable......

Looking good, Huss, and that looks like it would be a fun combo.
I was just looking at those lenses on the Lomography website thinking it would be great fun to have on my new to me M2.
I remember reading your post about that lens when you first got it.

Huss can you try this with a 21mm SA? or some other ultrawide that has horrible corner smearing on sony bodies? Really love that there are alternatives to FF sony now

I don't have a 21 SA, but used the 21 Color Skopar.

I have to say one thing, after just doing basic testing with these lenses, I was done! I have no idea how other people have the patience to do this sort of thing, and keep everything straight.

I bought the Z7 to possibly replace my M240, but definitely to replace the D850. It nails focus everytime with any AF lens I have on it, including the Sigma Art lenses. Without me having to adjust anything, fine tune anything. W/ the D850 wide open w my Sigma Art 50 or 35, focus is nailed about 70% of the time where it is truly sharp at the intended point.

With M lenses, I think issues may arise for landscape work, but for the photography I do - subjects closer to the camera - this wouldn't be an issue as stuff at infinity would be out of focus. Here the Z7 is really nice - I just tried it with the Zeiss ZM 50 1.5 and I'm able to nail focus anywhere w/o even having to magnify the image or use any focus aids. Also no need to worry about focus shift etc.

While that lens is fun, there's something about the quality of build.
It has two little tabs - one to adjust focus, the other to adjust the aperture.
One day I noticed the aperture tab had decided to take a leave of absence! It was just gone. No idea how that happened as I always baby my stuff, but there you have it. Luckily that ring is serrated so you can still change the aperture and wouldn't even know that it originally had a tab.

This lens works much better on film than digital.

I'll try it. As the FTZ does not have an aperture feeler (big mistake I think), it should work without any issues (it is a non AI lens).
The one thing I don't like about the GN lens is the focus throw feel. There is a range in the mid focus where turning the focus ring feels disconnected. It is a very good lens though.
