I like this forum very much, and although I do not disdain the technical discussion, what I miss is a clear reference, to the actual goal of this endavour i.e. making splendid images.
I note, there are a couple of spaces above the forum threads, and I'd like to make a suggestion to the moderators: if possible, one of these spaces could be a showcase for our photo of the week.
My idea, would be to opt for the quality, to really strike the imagination of the forum users with first rate images. I do not use the rf gallery for posting my photos, because I find it too restrictive and insufficiently flexible - the images are also too small to be enjoyed fully. I post my shots on flickr, and I have noticed, that the best groups quality wise, tend to restrict the amount of images you can post, and are further moderated, to prune the dudes.
We could do the same - limit the personal galleries to uploading just 1 image per week - possibly visible in a decent size, and give a a possibility to "fave" each image by the viewers. At the end of the week, the image with most faves would be presented in our showcase on the first page. It would be nice to be able to put comments both under the single images and under the photo of the week.
All that might spur us to pull out our best images and confront them with other users, thus creating a permanent stimulus towards improvement, while it would actually diminish the strain on server capacity of RFF thus giving us the possibility to enjoy bigger images.
