I've had two people latch onto this photo. I was playing with a 4x5 monorail, trying to learn movements while sitting in my home office. The shot was as simple as grabbing a chair from the dining room, throwing the flowers from the table on top, and exposing a couple sheets. My only goal was to A) get the focus right, and B) not screw up the tray development.

I, for one, see no good reason that this would be of interest, especially with all the clutter in the background. Maybe it's some Sally Mann-esque "real life" sort of jibber jabber, who knows.

I mean really, why would a chair be sitting right there with flowers on it? :)

It's the mysterious background clutter contrasted to the prosaic foreground that creates tension and raises questions. One starts seeing more and figuring out the background, and now I might see a ghost of the photographer in there too!

There's a playful idea there: those flowers look mighty serious sitting on the chair.

Visual pun? Critical commentary? Playful juxtaposition? I like it myself! :)

It's lines, tones, shadows, details, and questions, all of which add up to something greater than the sum of its parts.

I wasn't actually looking for a critique.. I was hoping you guys would post some photos as well! It's more than welcome though; thank you for the kind comments :)

Now post some photos! :D
