Home, work in progress, we plan to re-paint. Moving furniture. Taking books away from the shelves. I open by chance (is there a chance?) a book from an old encyclopedia and I find in it the stripe of an old B&W negative. Unfortunately the scanner is already packaged in a different place bit looking at it against the light it seems me there are a few self-portraits from my young times, around the ’70s! Not possible to do this with files 🙂

Nice surprise.

I found two negatives from my college photo class in a book a couple of years ago. I had put some negatives in books at one time and thought they were all lost when my ex sold my photography books at a yard sale after we separated. I fortunately had taken my railroad books with me. Twenty years after the divorce, it was a nice little treasure from the past.

I regularly print my digital work and it gets stuck and lost in books in exactly the same way. Similarly, I find Polaroid prints scattered through the books and boxes of old stuff too. In addition, every so often I clean out a hard drive that has become cluttered with cruft and find charming little nothing photos like this then as well.

The pleasant surprise is not limited to negatives, or analog processes.
