A Q3 43mm Apo-summicron camera to be announced soon? Hopefully true.

Oh wow!.... that's a terrific lens choice if true. I own the Pentax 43mm f1.9 lens in ltm mount and it's one of my favourite focal lengths.

I'm a bit disappointed that the lens appears to be about the same size as the existing 28mm - I was hoping for a more compact, pancake style lens that 40mm designs lend themselves to. It is supposed to be APO so maybe that's why.

I currently have both my kidneys so I suppose a Q3 43mm is not financially out of reach.

Expecting the price will be similar to the Q3 28/1.7. Likewise, the lens length likely stays the same to keep the 'macro' or close focusing ability on the Q3 43/2.

Strange lens decision since they have so many good 35 and 50mm lenses. Why didnt they make it 35mm ? i suppose to sell more m lenses on the go.

So it doesn’t compete. The Leica CL nearly killed the rest of the M cameras and Leica doesn’t want a repeat. It’s still a very good focal length.
I have tried it on pentax limited and its a very strange focal length. Nor 35 nor 50. If they dont want to have such problems maybe they could reduce the prices. The cl was of course cheaper than the m cameras and it did very well. There is a reason why 40mm, although small and cheap in almost any system, doesnt get much love. Id happily consider a full frame 35 or 50mm with autofocus and leica but with such a price its coming out, without interchangeable lenses one must be sure that his favorite focal length is that.

Pancake lenses tend to be 40mm or 43mm so I guess Leica chose it for the lower profile?

It's already out in the wild:

Lens doesn't exactly look small - far from a pancake. People on Reddit are slating the grey leatherette/wrap, but I think it looks pretty good.

I doubt lower, or 'pancake', lens profile was a consideration. Lens length is similar to that on the 28/1.7 Q3, with close ("macro") focus retained. The prime consideration was a longer non-cropped focal length and telephoto crops beyond those possible with the Q3. Some prefer 35mm, some prefer 50mm as their fav. FL; split the difference...some prefer neither one. You can't please all the people all the time, photogs included. But watch the sales take off.

The lens is bulky; I don't care. It suits the camera.
The styling on this camera appeals ot me a lot; there's something about it that instantly appeals to me. Not sure why.
I really don't care what "people on Reddit" are saying about it. LOL!

Bravo, Leica! Looks like a brilliant addition to the Q class. Now really tempt me and release the Q3 43 Monochrom. ;)

Hopefully it will help drive the price of the first generation Q down to where mere mortals can imagine perhaps getting one...
