"a rangefinder? why would i do that?"

Today, for a small excursion to the local botanical garden I brought my Leica, my Ikoflex TLR and my Canon S90 (mostly for use as a lightmeter) and made a few hipstamatic shots with my new iPhone as well. And I did not feel as loaded down as this guy. And I shot with only one camera and one lens at each moment in time... :)

I can understand the hat and the sunnies ... I'd be wearing a disguise too!

Is he a pro ... or just a well heeled amatuer?

Nah, he's doing the "one afternoon - all cameras" thing. He wanted to go a year but changed his mind half a block from home... :D

I I haul out my 4x5 Graphic when I want people to really ham it up for me.

Same here. Nonchalantly taking a crown graphic out of a messenger bag during a night out, in order to take a picture is a priceless experience that everyone should try. Seriously.

I only carry a lot of gear when I am carrying an 8x10 or 4x5. And I use an actual bag for those.

And yet there are members here who regularly carry two M bodies and several lenses. Not that different really. From the little I can see of his gear, the guy in the first post appears to be set up for video work and sound recording - a little different from still photography.

Hey man, at least he has no hang-ups about being identified as a photographer in public. Kudos to him! Some people are so self-conscious about carrying a camera in public it's ridiculous! They have to have the smallest, quietest, least camera looking camera before they will take a snap in public for fear of being identified as a photo nerd.

Now I miss my 300 2.8...
