A sad place on the highway

Here's a roadside memorial closer to home. This one was just outside Fort Wayne, across the street from the city's landfill.

Nice shots but I can't agree about the subject matter. It looks like dead teddies on a fence, kinda sad itself.
Warning: Teddies keep out?

They're a memorial to someone who died in a car accident. This type of memorial along roadsides, using teddy bears and other stuffed toys with crosses is common in New Mexico. An old tradition. In Indiana, where I shot the black and white photo, its more common to see plain crosses, or crosses with flowers, because the rainy weather here would quickly destroy a stuffed animal.

We have memorials all over the roadsides in the UK. The fashion these days is for football scarves and strips, since it's invariably, but not exclusively young guys smashing themselves up in cars. A young guy in the small town where I live threw himself from a bridge on to a busy motorway. The football scarves and strips appeared the next morning. I think the police here insist they are removed after a set period of time.

Understood, Chris, we have them all over in Texas. There is even one in a local mall parking lot where HS kids were making donuts in a pickup and flipped, killing a passenger. Stupid but very sad.

My point was the Teddies are themselves a sad sight.Reminded me of a picture I saw of a gay kid who was tied to a fence and stoned.

Flowers and a cross seem more appropriate.

Love your work, I never question your motives.
