I rode to Mt. Diablo today so I thought I'd play with my new iPhone 5's panorama feature.
There is no stitching the photographer needs to conduct. You just pan the iPhone as indicated on screen and this is what you get. This is pretty much straight out-of-camera. I took out a couple of tiny spots where birds were flying (which ended up looking like OOF sensor dusts). No other editing except the resizing.
This is 100% crop from far left size of the photo. You can see my orange Triumph in there.
Another Crop.
The original image imported to iPhoto from iPhone was
10784 x 2376 px, 17.1 Jpeg.
Just for fun I thought I'd share...

Very nice Sug!
After my last Widelux went under, I've been looking for another. This feature is pretty interesting.

Looks great! Is this feature exclusive to iPhone 5 or part of the new iOS6?

Supposedly the iPhone 4S also can, but not the 4.

Yeah 4s should be capable of this with iOS 6. Because it is really seamless, I guess one could use this as "cell phone medium format" way in short-panorama. I kinda wanna see how it's gonna look in relatively large prints...

good to know. i want to get the 4s (and switch carriers). i know it's not as glamorous as the 5 anymore, but it'll be a huge step up from my tmobile piece of crap.

Yes, works on the 4S with iOS6. It's pretty fun.
I never used my iPhone (3gs) for photos really because I wasn't happy with the quality. However, I can see myself using the 5 when mine arrives on this coming friday. Especially this feature. Its the first time the iPhone offers something, for photography, that my other cameras do not.

the problem is these kind of features don't work on evening shots, everything gets horribly blurred. don't throw your tripods out just yet.
i take a lot of city night shots as i live near one of the awesomist looking areas of tokyo, the iphone 4s/5 can only work well until about 6pm or so then it's just too dark to be useful

This looks awesome Sug! Looks close to my Sony NEX results after resize.

Quite impressed.
The better option for iPhone 4 users is going to bed with the enemy, and use Microsoft's Photosynth. Not as seamless, nor is the camera that good. But it works, if it´s the only tool you have, use it.

I'm terribly addicted to sweep panorama mode on my Nex5n. Good to know the iPhone has a nice version too.
