A source of Ilford film - UK

7dayshop used to be the cheapest around five or so years back - but these prices are horrific! £7.79 for a roll of HP5+?

Yep. They're not to blame though. 7DS's discounted film was due to a tax loop hole in the law, where tax could be avoided in firms in the UK based off shore (Jersey et all - just like Play.com). This loophole has now been closed, so those discounts are now a thing of history.

Well if you buy a single roll of HP5 from 7dayshop it's a ridiculous price.

However, buy 10 rolls and it's £4.39 a roll delivered - pretty much unbeatable.

I never knew that they operated like that Chris.
Not that I`ve ever used them.

That's why I always preferred Mailshots (see above). Cf. the IRS building: "Taxes are what we pay for a civilized society." The original quote is, I believe, from Oliver Wendell Holmes, minus the 'a'.

The UK loophole was reputedly designed for the export of cut flowers.

Cheers,

R.

Silverprint have an offer of 25% discount on 10+ rolls of all Ilford fillums at the moment.
If that's all one was ordering, 7DS would still be cheaper (Silverprint's delivery is £7.50) but if you're ordering chems or paper or whatnot at the same time, it's a good deal from Silverprint.

Except that Mathers charge £3.95 for delivery which make the cost - for 10 rolls - the equivalent of £4.38½p per roll delivered

So, yes it's cheaper from Mathers ...

I'm never sure why so often prices are quoted without including delivery costs. It's not as though you don;'t have to pay them ...

But would you want to give your money to 'people' like 7 day or a family business like Mathers?
You can order mixed 5 rolls HP5 5 FP4 etc and not have to deal with 7Day and their latent shipping process!
Mathers send your film same day despatch, 7 day might send it in the same week so the value of that 'free postage' is questionable to say the least.
For me that's worth it– after waiting 2+ weeks for film from 7 day I'll never deal with them again.

There's no moral imperative, the data are neutral - just information.

Any of us can choose to place our money wherever we prefer, for whatever reasons.

Absolutely, and I choose to get my film from someone I can ring up and talk to if there is a back order, or some other problem— someone who is very efficient always posts my package within 24hrs of ordering.

I choose not to buy my film from a faceless machine that sometimes send my package up to 3 weeks later.
I ordered some Velvia from 7 day in July, and got an out of stock reply. I'm still waiting!
By mid September and after three unanswered e-mails I decided to get them elsewhere.

Of course we can spend our money where we like, and I choose to spend mine with someone who treats me like a valued customer.
YMMV

You may have perfectly good reasons to prefer to buy from someone other than 7DS, but please vent your rage at them and not at me.

Rage? surely you jest? Where have I vented at you?

If you took my 'I'll never buy from them again' statement as a personal slight I un reservedly and humbly apologise.

All I meant to point out was Mathers are cheaper with better service.
Peace 🙂 Please accept my apologies

Aaaaaaanyway, Mathers is just around the corner from me, so that completely negates any postage issues for me. Ithangyow!
