This should be in the fixed lens digital compact forum, but I can't start a thread in there.
As you may know, I got accused of taking pictures, at work. They cannot stop me from photographing, as the firm invites us all to send in our best pictures of work. And my accuser, upon visiting my blog, immediately withdrew his accusation. The upshot is, my 'immediate superior' has asked me not to carry my camera on a strap. I was using a fuji XE-2, with the 18 mm and lens hood, tucked under my coat...
So now I need a camera that fits in my pocket, and on this gear mad forum, I stumbled across the Ricoh GR. 28mm equivalent, APS-C, perfect. After a week-long struggle of reviews, comparisons with its younger sibling, chasing prices, and discovering empty stocks, I got my greedy paws on a second hand GR.
It is a revelation. I'm taken in by the fully one-handed operation, the free customisation, and most of all the Snap Focus feature, a really smart use of zone focus in a digital camera. As a black and white aficionado I am charmed by the noisy grain at higher ISO's.
A promising start with a new camera :
Best of all, I deeply enjoy a schoolboys pride in shooting a camera that has Daido Moriyama's soul in it.

I'm beginning to think my employer has done me a service in forcing me to look for a smaller camera. I would have put money aside for a 35 mm, which I wouldn't have used, or I might have saved for a digital leica, which would have made me self-conscious.
The Ricoh GR is near perfection. The screen can be turned off. The click is a pin falling on a rubber mat. You can look like an idiot and shoot like a pro. I love it.

You've come to the side of the Angels now ;-). And can immediately begin posting in the glorious and varied GR threads here.
A trick you can do with the GR if about to be confronted: cover the screen with your hand, put the lens opening to your mouth, and begin talking to a distant relative in an unintelligible language. Though really, it is the least confrontational camera unless you use flash or the AF beam.

I'm glad you've communicated with management and colleagues and found a way around the prohibitions Lukitas, and have a spur to take even more photos in the HCB tradition.

Congrats on joining the GR faitful. It's probably the most camera for the $$ that one can get. And a liberating user experience, indeed. Be sure to invest some time in learning TAv and snap focus.

It sounds as if your employer has at least some degree of common sense. I have been told by employers that cameras are simply prohibited in the workplace; when I pointed out that they don't confiscate or ban cell phones that can take photographs, I was informed that "cell phones aren't cameras."

It is a good tool for balancing candor and discretion, and 28mm gives context--E.g., the political economy of rummaging for returnable cans/bottles (and sleeping when one can).
Then, too, it can handle landscape:

It is indeed a liberating experience : small, all the buttons under the fingers of one hand. Its' screen set to off, I can frame with my whole arm. Stealthy and fast. I set the Fn2button to change the snap focus distance. Why didn't I hear of snap focus before? A very sharp lens, no discernible distortion. At higher ISO's, the files exhibit a lovely grainy texture, similar to Tri-X.
In low light, it can search a bit for focus, but Snap Focus is there to save us. Pointed the sun, it shows a little glare, but I can live with that. Are, Bure, Boke, right?
Haven't tried it for colour yet, but that can wait. The black and white is gorgeous.
