A Stroll in Downtown Pensacola with E-P2 and E-PL1

I had with me today the M 4/3 cameras E-P2 and E-PL1, with the SLR lenses Zeiss 50/1.4 and 85/1.4. I took some photos at the 2014 BarkTober Fest for the dogs. Then, I walked around on Palafox Street, where the weekly Farmer's Market is held.

I really like the colors straight out of these two cameras when setting them to Natural Colors. The old SLR Zeiss lenses match up nicely with the M 4/3 cameras. I like such a variation to using the M8 and M9. The sun light was hitting my eyes and the camera, so some images were not very sharp, but I like them, so it is not a problem.
 
My morning stroll was extended with an evening drive along Pensacola Beach, just as the sun was setting. The weather was cool and beautiful, as as we often experience during the fall, the colors are awesome at such a time. The sky is clear, and the Gulf of Mexico water appears "cold" blue. It is a very special time for me during which I remind myself that it was a good idea not to accept any job offers at other locations.

I kept my Olympus M 4/3 outfit from the morning stroll, so I will post here some photos from the sunset too. I have ISO set to 100, and the 85/1.4 is at 1.4 because the lens has no more any aperture blades. The 50/1.4 may have been set to 5.6. Both lenses had lens hoods.


Zeiss Planar 50/1.4:

Shooting away from the sun is my favorite option. The colors will be subtle and pastel like. I switch between horizontal images and vertical ones. Both are appealing to me. Most people seem to favor horizontal compositions for such images, I have read somewhere.

When we arrived to Pensacola Beach, the sun was about to set, and I quickly walked to the water. I saw the sea oats, and I tried to reduce the light of the sun by hiding it behind the sea oats.

The sun is finally setting, and it was a glorious event for me to witness the red and the orange glow. Everything was just calm.

I then turn around and look away from the setting sun to enjoy the mix of purple shades that mixes with the sand color and the water color. Everything seems to blend. I sense Tranquility here.

I quickly turn around to catch whatever was remaining in sight of the setting sun. People are scattered here and there at the beach, enjoying the peaceful event. Life is good.

This little game of turning around 180 degrees continued, and I caught this scene quickly. In fact, everything was done very quickly since my family was waiting for me in the car, all hungry and ready to have dinner, plus, the sun obviously was setting.

I like the 50mm lens when used on the E-PL!, with a 100mm view. It is wide enough to show more of the beach than the 85 lens which shows a 170mm views. This is still with the 50/1.4.

I also used the 85/1.4 during the sunset. Both lenses are great lenses, in my opinion, with the 50 being much lighter.

Before we left our home to drive along the Gulf Coast, Lina was preparing herself and her "Little Pony" and I happened to be standing there with my camera. I used the 85/1.4, I think. It was tricky to get the images in focus since she kept on moving quickly around, while I kept on refocusing at 1.4.

Nice work, Raid! Really enjoying seeing what these two Oly Pen cameras can produce with those good lenses of yours.
 
Thank you Steve. I don't miss using the M8 or M9 when I use the old Zeiss lenses on the cheap EP cameras.
 
I recently got an Oly Pen E-P5, mainly for the improved sensor and autofocus with "native" m4/3 lenses, but am looking forward to trying it out with "legacy" glass too. The E-PL1 is a sweet little camera (still have mine) and takes good images if you're not working quickly.
