A strong shareholder...and returning to Wetzlar.

I'm sure this is old news, but I just received the 08/09 Leica catalog, which in the introduction pages says, "Since the start of 2008 Leica has been receiving support from a strong shareholder...starting in 2010 Leica AG will again be headquarterd in Wetzlar..."

I'm wondering A) who this shareholder is, and B) what all will be encompassed with this new chapter in Leica's history.

They are opening a new, more modern plant in Wetzlar. So perhaps that will mean lower manufacturing costs and more automation. When I spoke to the Dr. about it in 2007 he seemed to feel that the new plant would give them more flexibility but allow them to keep the high quality. We shall see.
