Hello Folks!

I just received my trusty ole M6 back in the mail...after a camera retrade from out west 🙂

I worked with this camera over 10 years, but never added anything "new" to it since I left Germany with it.....now I have a question about a lens cap......

It`s a 1987 Black Chrome M6 with a 1992 Black f2.0 50mm Summicron in the full Black everyday case

This is the Summicron that has the removable lens hood 12538 in Black plastic that`s reversable to attach to the front of the lens, I have a Leitz UV on it for protection, but I`d like more.....so is there a Black lens cap that can cover the end of the lens when it`s reversed?

If so (I`m sure there is) what`s the Leica code number and how much do these cost?

I`m happy it`s Leica M6 CROSSPROCESSING time! and lot`s of Retro Fetish and Art Nudes the M6 will hopefully be busy again this weekend

Thanks!

Tom

There is. I need to look up the number (someone may beat me to that). They're common, because the same cap was used on the reversed 12575 (90/135) hood, the 12585 (35/50 metal) hood and possibly the 12504 (series 6 35mm metal) hood. Small (maybe not so small) caveat: there are at least two major versions. One just pushes straight on and the cap has straight cuts for the pushbuttons on the hood. These tend to fall off easily... There's a later version that has sort of C-shaped cuts for the pushbuttons, so it sort of snaps onto the hood.

Here's the deal...

KEH has three versions (I intentionally did not mention the third, which is not worth considering IMO).

They list the first as: SHADE 50/90/135 EARLY (42) SLOTTED CAP

That *should* be the first version I described...doesn't snap on.

They list the second as: SHADE 50/90/135 LATE 14033 CAP

and #14033 is the code I remember. That's the one you want.

There's a third version listed as "thin" and that's the right word. It fits into rather than over the hood and you have to depress the pushbuttons to put it in securely and to get it out...and it has next to nothing to grab...you have to use your fingernails. Skip that one.

It's the 14033. Here's a pic of the 12538 hood with the cap alongside. Hope this helps.

edit: P.S. I see JNewell provided the answer while I was typing and locating the pic below.

Kool!!!!!

Thanks Everyone for the quick responses 🙂

I`ll look for that soon, sure it won`t be too costly, it`s an extra protection for that great lens!

I can`t wait to get back to shooting Crossprocessed Retro/Fetish photos with this lens at f8 + for that nice "Summicron" sharpness, she always performed amazing at f8 and higher stopped down 😀

Not sure how secure they'll be. There are no filter threads in the inside of the shade for the cap to engage. Pure friction might be good enough, though, and they are LOTS cheaper.
