A Tale of two Electros

Hello Gentlemen! I have been away from this forum for quite awhile after I sold off pretty much all of my rangefinder collection. As fate would have it, I was in one of our local thrift stores looking for vinyl records and vintage stereo equipment (my other passion) when I happened to spy two Yashica cases.

I opened both to find a GS and a GSN, both in rather excellent condition. I bought them both for $10.00 and took them home. The GSN had a small dent in the top deck, right where the exposure lights come out but fortunately neither light was broken. The GSN also had a non-functional frame counter while the GS was all present and accounted for.

I opened up both of them and cleaned the RF lenses and screens, replaced the all the light seals in both cameras and pushed out the dent in the GSN's top deck and fixed the frame counter. I had only one 6 volt battery so I swapped it into both of them to check meter functions and both passed with flying colors!

Oh, and yes.....they both have that lovely Electro "clunk" when you advance the flim lever!

The GTs are sweet. I've got a older G down the basement that I've had forever. Bought it off the 'Bay and when I got it the shutter blades were all detached and the lens was loose. Tried to open it up to see if I could fix it and kind of boogered her up more. :bang: The body is still mint.

Oh well, guess I can still use it for parts.

Thank you gentlemen It's nice to find that I haven't lost what few camera repair skills I had! It's definitely been a while since I cracked a camera open, rangefinder or other. My RF camera collection is much smaller now - as I mentioned before that I had sold off most of them, although it has increased by 2!

My wonderful wife got me a Sony A300 DSLR for Christmas last year and we have spent most of our photography time behind the Sony digital. I had also turned my attention to vinyl LPs and old stereo equipment so my film photography has languished for some time while I pursued and rebuilt analog stereo systems In fact, my last restoration was my wife's grandfather's Victor II talking machine.

I go to all the thrift stores looking for vinyl albums and equipment and that is where I found the Electro's. When I held them, I realized how much I missed my old RFs in general and my Yashicas in particular. I had most all of the Yashica RF models at one time, but then sold them all! :bang:

Looks like I might have started a Yashica collection again........🙄

BTW Russ, I checked out your website. Very nice, you do good work!
