Just something that crossed my mind as I loaded two reels up for developing just now. I wondered what I'd do if I forgot to put something into the dark bag.

Have you ever wanted to load up your film only to realize you forgot the cover of the dev tank, or the reel itself, or the spindle to mount the spools on, or your scissors, and the realization only dawned upon you after you started unspooling film, or even loaded it up on the spool and cut it off from the canister?

The classic play if you can't load the reel, is to put the film in the tank, close it, turn on the lights and plan you next move.

I suppose if you forget the top of the tank you could try sticking the film in and inverting the tank to seal off the light

Pretty much the goal is to protect the unexposed film and recover

I did this once - I'd left the lid from the tank out and the scissors so I reached for a heavy book and sealed off the light in the darkbag that way - probably not a method to be relied on though!!

I've done that too! I carefully removed one arm at a time from the sleeves, folded them over and put a phone book on top. Then I carefully eased my hand with the scissors back in one sleeve, the lid in the other. Fortunately, the film wasn't fogged. Now I'm extra careful about gathering everything together before starting.:bang:

My darkbag has two bags inside each other, each with a zip. I forgot something once, and I got my wife to unzip the outer bag, and put it between the two bags. Then, from the inside, I unzipped the inner bag enough to pull the item through, and rezipped as best I could.

Isn't that why there are two bags?

Left the lid out once, stuck the reel with the film loaded in the tank, inverted it, pressed it down into the bottom of my changing tent, pulled my arms out, grabbed the lid, reversed the process and all was well.

Haha very interesting to see the variety of solutions here. I nearly forgot the center spool for the tank last night. Thankfully remembered them before I started everything.

A while ago I purchased a number of those roll film storage containers, and for whatever reason have gotten into the habit of keeping my exposed rolls in these until I am ready to develop them. Since the rolls go into the bag already in one of these containers, I find that I can always just pop them back into the container if I run into trouble.
