How's your day been?
So far, I've spent $270 to have my car towed and repaired after it failed to start, one of the shelves in a kitchen cupboard collapsed breaking several bottles and creating a sticky gooey mess, I found out someone using the delightfully clever name of "PayPalAuctionManager" has used my name, address and credit card number to open an account at a cheapo internet service provider (credit card company alerted and that account cancelled), and I tripped and fell on my OM-2N wearing a Zuiko 135/2.8.
I'm typing softly lest the keyboard explode. The night is young.
Now, to the point: The camera and the lens seem undamaged except for a dent in the 135's collapsible built-in hood. Now, it doesn't collapse.
Two questions, then: Can I remove the hood? How? Frankly, I'm not enamored of the lens, so a malfunctioning hood is not an issue.

If I were you I'd just go to bed early... and deal with the lens issue some other day.

Well there's a thing call lens rack, which is a piece of wood carved out to the exact circumference of a lens filter ring, or in your case, hood. You put the hood on and hammer the dent bit with hard plastic or wood preferably, to put it back in shape

Really sorry to hear about your day. Hope it goes better for you. FYI, and I'm sure you already knew this, but AAA is really useful. I've saved quite a bit of money having an account all these years, more than makes up for the cost of membership.

Be careful not to knock the bottle over on the camera...it sounds like it's been that kind of day.

Bill, I did regret dropping my AAA membership. The tow cost $70. The rest went for a new ignition switch. Coulda been worse.

I'm hip. Been through several unexpected and somewhat expensive repairs recently. Electric window switch, distributor, radiator, battery, ignition switch (which fell out but was shoved back in rather than being replaced). All timed about a month apart, made me feel I had the pain of a car payment with the joy of a 15 year old car. Super. But at least AAA saved me a bundle on towing. With my wife and I driving 800 miles several times a year, AAA is an expense we can ill afford to be without. Sorry for your lousy day, my sympathies.

I'm sorry about your day: but to the lens hood. There are camera repairmen that can fix that. I tried to do one of mine and I got it to work but it was cosmetically compromised. If your car needs a new muffler after being towed take it to a real muffler shop, AND take your lens. They have a tool that can true and open your lens hood.

Yeah, the last car that I had towed I sold within a day. 'Twas a ten-year old VW VR6 GTI. Dunno what it's called in Europe, but it was the V-6 version of the Golf sold in the U.S. A great car. Bought it new and put 185,000 miles on it. Was starting to put money into it. The tow was prompted by a failed fuel pump. That was the last straw and I sold it to the mechanic. I still see him driving it around town.

the good news is tomorrow is a new day and hopefully a better one...that's what i try to tell myself when "the dump truck of life" has brought me two or three loads of c#*p in one day.

We're all light!
Bill: That was a Bad Day, indeed. Thankfully they don't come around that often, but when they do...
Here's to a merry glass (or three...I'm indulging a bit as I write this), a good night's sleep, and a fresh start tomorrow!
