A Very Permanent Solution for the Video Button

I have two NEX-7 bodies that I like very much, with the really big exception of the video button accidental activation. I'd thought of just getting rid of the cameras, but was waiting for Sony to come out with a firmware release to put a lock on the button. I finally gave up on Sony and made my own solution: some instant glue down the crack around the periphery of the button. This was "Crazy Glue," a cyanoacrylate, and *not* the gel type, the liquid type. The buttons are now completely inoperative. I know that there are those who sometimes want to shoot video or might worry about the warranty, but I'm happy as a clam.

I wouldn't use Crazy Glue around anything that involves optics; the fumes are known to attack glass surfaces and to leave nasty deposits. As mentioned elsewhere, cyanoacrylates are used in forensics to recover fingerprints from glass surfaces precisely because of this property.

I would probably prefer something like a rubber washer, akin to what is proposed at Luminous Landscape as the "NEX-7 Redneck Edition" (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/the_sony_nex_7_redneck_edition.shtml).

I used Sugru to make a guard. Works great. No accidental button presses, but when I want to shoot video I can.

Nice. The video button is annoying, but I find that I accidentally bump the AEL-AF/MF switch far more often.
