A Wee Smidge of Info on the "Digital M"

Sure it will. Isn't angle of view a part of character?

Both Nikons and (d)SLRs are better than Leica's rf cameras. Tongue-in-cheek partly but not entirely. The best camera is the one you use. Guess which one I don't use... my M2.

I carry my M6 more than my DSLRs, but probably shoot the Nikons 10x as much. Different missions, different needs.

That is true as far as focal length and aperture go. In practice it turnes out that, because sensors are basically different lightcapturing devices from film, some lenses get "better" on digital, some get "worse", at any rate the behaviour changes. Indeed it has nothing to do with angle of view.

it sure is, on my 20d shooting with the 17-40 really looses any of its fun character of the lens because it turns into a 27-64

Sorry, mate, the focal length remains exactly the same. The only thing that changes is the size of the canvas on which you project your photo. If you don't change the subject distance the perspective won't change either. The 17-40 is an example of a lens that does as well or better on sensor than on film. The 75-300 IS (RIP unlamented) an example of a lens that is reasonable on film and an absolute dog on digital.

I'm hoping some of the MP and M7 users out there will find this DM irresistable and will flood the market with their obsolete film gear. Then I can buy an M7 for less than an arm and a leg.

I can't wait.

Will not happen. Why; because most Leica MP owners have money-is-no-object approach! In fact, they might want to keep MP for the sake of being the last M film camera.

I don't think the MP is the last M film camera ... now there's MP 3 and a M3J only available in Japan - if they stop now, the M3J will be the last one.

The M6, M7, MP bassically have no collecting value, a year after the DM hits the street, their price will drop like a hard rock IMHO. 😉
