I have noticed that both my Sony-Zeiss 55mm and 35mm lenses can focus beyond infinity. Obviously, this does not show in autofocus mode. But if I put the camera in manual mode and keep spinning the focus ring, at some point focus goes past infinity.

Actually when I focus on something far away like a cloud, autofocus does not go to the end of the scale focus of the lens (And the picture is, thus, super sharp). When I switch to manual focus afterwards, the graphical display shows that the focus is one notch before infinity, and that I can focus on objects further away. When I move the focus ring, the focus distance marker goes effectively one notch further and stops at the infinity sign. But when it reaches the infinity sign, the real infinity (clouds) are already out of focus.

Has anyone else had this experience? Is this normal? The same camera works pretty nicely with my adapters and manual lenses, and there is no back-focusing visible on those lenses.

This is normal for AF lenses. They need to go the extra distance in order for the camera to figure out best focus.
