I understand. One last thought. I have two Zeiss lenses made for Sony. One the 24-70mm which I consider the best lens ever made in its class. I do very little color, contrast correction or sharpening. So I find it strange someone wants to invest that kind of money for a Sony a7/7R and put a inferior manual lens on it. Zeiss will certainly make some E mount full frame lenses and I can promise you they will be better than and third party lens you put in front of the new Sony's. I have found over the years you are better off using the lenses made specifically for your system and you will be better served in the long run.
I also have a couple of converted R lenses for my a99. I do have to correct for the color when I use them as out of camera they seem flat and also the white balance is a little off as well.
Only with older film-era R lenses, where the coating is optimized for emulation and not for digital sensors. There is no doubt that 24-70 is a fantastic zoom, but it is not quite up to the standards of modern high-end primes, of which Leica is surely on top.
At any rate the 35mm Summilux ASPH is brilliant on my X-E1, as is the 90mm APO-summicron. The Fuji 35 is nice, but the summilux seems to have much better micro-contrast and smoother bokeh. Also, it might be a long time before Sony plugs the gaps in both of its lens lines. Is there even a world-class native 35mm for Alpha mount?

I do a lot of landscape and would like to know what makes the a99 so good? Thanks.
And I agree with your point about native lenses.![]()
Focus peaking, no mirror movement, articulating screen, the EVFer can be used in extreme low light, dust reduction, best Zeiss glass available, weather sealed, really good dynamic range and low noise up to 3200 ISO.

Hi uhoh, what do those photos show you?
I think there is a reason why the blogger has processed them in what he calls "high contrast monchrome", with in focus objects only center frame.
so many are looking at that shot it doesn't even come up now on my machine---the cityscape.
the lens is considered unusable on any digital camera, and edges, what you see of them, look pretty decent. In fact I even like the shot.
the reason I post it is because it's one of the few A7r samples with RF style "problem" lenses that we have so far.

Cosmo I wanted a TSE option for my landscapes on the A99. The option I liked best was the Leica PC, no tilt I know. Never really bonded with the Zeiss Zooms. Nothing to do with the glass I just don't really like Zooms. Agree totally on what you say above, articulated screen, focus peaking (esp. yellow), no mirror movement and I will add the EVF. What you see is what you get and I love that.

Hi all, last night used the a7 and the a7r at the Melbourne launch. There was only two lenses available to use with the body, one was the Zeiss 35 f2.8, the other the Zeiss 55 f1.8. both are new Sony lenses designed for the new body and was not allowed to use my own card.
It is a brilliant camera and I can see it being taken up by a lot of M users. I'm not a fan of electronic VF and focus peaking, but for the price, image quality and being able to strap on just about any full frame lens ever made, I'm sold.
Cheers Andrew.
