So I have at least one old Leitz rangefinder M lens which I think is not calibrated properly. So will mounting on a A7R work fine? Since one focuses via EVF which reflects exactly what the sensor sees I assume it should focus ok, even if the lens is out of whack. Have I understood this correctly?

Yes. But it may not reach infinity OR focus way past it. N9netheless you can probably use it without too much issue at shorter ranges.

Will this really be an issue? As I assume whatever I see in EVF is essentially Live view of what the sensor is seeing so focus peaking etc and what I see as in focus Will be in focus. Correct?

Depends on how severely defective the lens is. The lens may only close focus and you're stuck with a pseudo macro or the lens may not focus close at all and you're stuck shooting only far-off subjects.

You may have a lens that's not too far out of whack and it could work fine for the most part, although you won't get full range of focus.

It may work completely normal. If the issue is the focusing cam not the helical, then you will be fine.

If the lens focus to infinity on an M body I think you will be just fine.
