Abandoned houses is one of my favourite photographic subjects. I love the sense of personal history they evoke. What were the lives of the people who used to live here like?

tech specs: taken with Bob Sepiareverb's Fuji GS645 folder, HP5+ in HC-110

I'm stuck at the computer again this weekend, writing report cards for my students, and I'm am giving myself reward breaks by scanning some as yet unprinted negs from the summertime.

If you have any abandoned houses to share, please post!

Thanks Raid, but they are just technically competent images of an interesting subject, and not great photography destined for a gallery. But it's good enough for me, and gives me satisfaction. A print from these medium format negs will have fine detail and rich tonality, and may find a space on my wall.

Well, not RF images but they fit your theme for this thread. Holga imags. One a house, the other an old abandoned motel. Both somewhere in the middle of te Utah desert.

Very good Rich. Especially the first one. These I find more artistic than mine. Should I get a Holga? ;)

I like to go inside them.

A different house. It would be interesting to see the inside but I don't much care for prairie rattlers.

Wow, that's a church! Too bad all the windows (light sources) are boarded up, i bet it looks awesome inside. We don't have prairie rattlers in Indiana. There are poisonous snakes here, Massasaugua Rattlers, but they're small and very rare (endangered species). I've never seen a live one, though my grandfather's cat has killed a couple of them! Meanass cat! They like swampy areas and only live near lakes and swamps.

Very nice stuff so far...
I haven't shot any old homes but do have alot of "Old Barns" in my portfolio...

Mostly shot with a 4x5 Field Camera, on Velvia, in the Mid-West (Kansas, Nebraska & Missouri)

Once they find the ancient camera that took the ancient photo, they'll REALLY have something. Or does that mean I'm a gear-head?

You've gotta wonder about the former residents....

They were pretty crazy. This house belonged to my grandpa's neighbors. They sold the house to a developer who built a reception hall there after tearing down the house. The construction guys let go in and take photos before they tore it down. My father and grandfather always told me the people there were whitetrash....lol The house was full of dog poop and there was graffiti on the walls. My father tells me the graffiti I saw was painted there by the kids who lived there (they're his age now....the house belonged to their parents who are my grandpa's age) back in the 1960's!

I swear to God they dipped a baby in paint and held it by its ankles to do those footprints on the ceiling! They're too perfectly natural and real looking to have been stenciled or hand-drawn.

These photos were done TWO WEEKS after they moved out! This place looked like this when they lived there. It didn't deteriorate from sitting empty, wasn't empty lonmg enough.

thank you both for the compliment. I took these photos back in 1994 in North Carolina. I think if memory serves me correctly I was shooting with my Retina then.

Did you use a soft-focus filter? The indoor one looks too soft for the Schneider lenses on a Retina and the second definately has the glowing highlights from a Soft/FX or Softar filter. I keep being reminded that I own a couple of Tiffen Soft/FX filters and I need to use them!
