So if I went to buy a 40.5mm yellow filter and a 40.5mm lens hood, would I be able to stack them assuming the aforementioned items were all generic and standard? Just realised that those two things will come handy soon... Damn shame I can't seem to find the combo from a single seller, and I'm hesitant to order one bit here and another there.

Anxiously waiting for that Jupiter-8 to arrive. 🙂

Assuming the threads are ok on the lens, filter, & hood you should have no problems... If you would still like to use a lens cap, the vented 40.5mm hoods available on ebay take a 55mm snap-on cap.

Cheers, enjoy your J-8!

Peter

Hey, thanks for the reply. It seems there's this one seller, who is offering a 40.5mm vented hood w/ a 55mm snap-on lens cap for 10 USD, might as well go for it. Still searching for an appropriate filter... tip me off if any of you happen to run across one. 😉

40.5 filters are quite easy to get, try these people.

Thanks John for the link, I'll skim through that Bible of a catalog, makes me wish they had online order forms... 🙄

EDIT: Bought a lens hood/cap combo, only missing a good yellow filter now.

No problem Tuomo, but they do have an on-line order form, I think because they have so much stuff, it is perhaps difficult to find.
hope this link works!!

I've used them a lot, and always found them good to deal with. they can provide all sorts of adaptors, and will even make stuff for you!!

For example, I sent them two filter holders for my Horizont 202 camera, and they fitted a graduated grey and red filters into them!!

The only problem is with the lens field if view and the hoods field of view, - the J8 or J8m can accept a deep hood with a filter as well, but a J3 needs a wide angle hood even without a filter. You need to try ground glass (or matt tape) at focal plane, to see if the hood is visible.

The hood I'm getting doesn't look all that deep, won't have any problems with that I reckon. Thanks for the heads-up concerning the J-3 and hoods, though. I think GAS will eventually claim me as its newest victim once I get positive experiences with the Zorki...

P.S. Noel, check out my non-RF gallery thread in the Off-Topic section, http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34902
Critique needed.
