Yesterday I visited the Abstract Expressionism exhibition at the Royal Academy in London. While living up to the hype as far as the paintings went there were also some photographs by Aaron Siskind, Harry Callahan and Minor White. Great to see these and to appreciate that no reproduction can get close to the fantastic print quality these guys achieved. If you get to visit the exhibition be sure not to miss them.

Thanks for the tip. I won't be in London anytime soon, but it was still fun to look up the images of the three photographers you mentioned. Definitely Abstract Expressionism.

In the Spring the Art Institute here in Chicago held an extensive Siskind show. In addition to the fine prints, the show included many of his quotes. He was very open about his approach and artistic intentions.
I was inspired to start shooting abstracts in the alleys of the inner city. It's certainly an engaging way to look at the world.
