Skinny, I know that Bill Mattocks made a comparo test of these long RF lense a long while ago. Perhaps contact him to ask if he misses this thread.

Good buy for $12 I think!

I was looking for that test myself - here it is, http://www.growlery.com/bessa_lens_tests/ but unfortunately the photo links seem to be broken by now. A "Super-Acall" lens is included in the test though..

From my recently purchased 135 Acall first roll. €37 on evilB together with a vf.

Hey Skinny,

A while back I was looking for similar info, and found a couple of threads that may interest you... Bill's lens test was the only source of images that I found, but the links do seem to be broken (just checked).

What did I just buy? Super Acall

Kyoei Super-Acall 135mm

I haven't scanned any pics taken with my Super-Acall, but it is a good lens in my opinion... I'm happy with the results and for the price they go for you can't go wrong!

Good as

Good as

Hello:

I have one and consider it as good as or better than a Hecktor. Sorry I have no scanned images but may go out and make some in the next day or two.

I just got back a roll with some shots through one of these lenses. Got mine from FleaBay with a finder and hood for about $35.00. I put it on a Bessa-R and was pleasantly surprised when I got the roll back that the viewfinder lines up properly with this camera. I have to "process" the scans and I'll post. I was going to post shots to a thread that I had started a month or so ago.

These first results seem promising but not in the same league as Leica's or Steinheil's. :)

Nice work, nrb. The 135mm focal length really adds variety to a camera outfit. As your shots show, its also the only focal length on a rangefinder that will give you flattening of perspective and compression of distant objects. It's great for scenics. I've never used an Acall, but I like the 135 focal length.

Here are 4 shots from a Bessa-R with a 135mm Super Acall and the Acall viewfinder in the shoe.

All the shots were wide open at f3.5 and I had a yellow Series VII filter in the lens hood/filter adapter. Film was Kodak C-41 BWC400 and the scans were done by the processor.

The original files were TIF files at 300 DPI, but I reduced them to 72 DPI for upload. I also desaturated them but maintained the original dimensions and used no sharpening. I'm impressed with this lens!

Sorry, didn't realize my home web server was off the net. Should work now.

http://www.growlery.com/bessa_lens_tests/

Thing is, I don't have enough room on my domain names www.growlery.com and www.cameramentor.com to support everything I do, so I often have the web page point back to mattocks.sytes.net, which is a dynamic IP that points to the machine in my office that is outside my firewall. I modified my firewall rules after a recent hacking attempt, and accidentally locked out my own dmz machine. Sorry!

I like the Super Acall. I also have a Bittco Super Vemar which is the exact same lens. In fact, I have a dozen or so 135mm LTM lenses now, all shapes and sizes, all third party except for a single Hektor. Nobody seems to bid on 'em, so I give 'em a home. I guess my two favorites at the moment are the Komura 135mm f2.8 and Arco Tele-Colinar f3.8. Both sharp. The Colinar is sharper, the Komura is faster. But my Canons are still numero uno.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

The only problem I've found with the Super Acall is lack of compatibility with my FEDs. The RF coupler on the FED is a lever instead of a roller and the lever hangs up on the lens when it is threaded on. Oh well. My primary LTM camera is a Bessa-R so it isn't a great problem. :)

Zorki's also have this problem, but it is common to many types of LTM lens that they have a projecting 'tab' instead of a 'collar' and so will not work on a Zorki/Fed.

I knocked the RF alignment of a Zorki 4K into next week trying to mount a Leica Hektor 135mm f4.5.

Hi,

I managed to mount my Super-Acall on my late FED 2, but had to mount the lens while the camera was empty... The way I did it was to open the back of the camera and set the shutter to 'B' then (making sure the lens was focused at it's closest setting) pulled back a little on the rangefinder arm as I screwed the lens in. Doing this it clears the lever and after 2 revolutions (after it would normally 'catch' the arm) the lens is screwed in tightly.

I haven't rigorously checked the focussing as I just did this recently, but from some indoor estimation of distances it seems to be working ok... Time will tell when I get the test roll I shot developed. The short rf base of my FED 2 might also pose some problems?

I have also found that this lens mounts easily on my FED 5B... I didn't have to play with the rangefinder coupler and have changed lenses numerous times during the test roll (which is also not developed... lack of $$$... time to develop my own film!)

I hope this helps with your Super-Acall...
