Hi folks

I was in a hurry, and failed to see the mount in the photo. At he end of the purchase, I now have a Nikkor P.C. 8.5cm f2 Nippon Kogagu Japan chrome lens. I know this lens is a legend, a Sonnar after which I have lusted all along. Plus, the lens is in very nice condition, the glass is clean, and focusing is smooth.

Now, the question is, what next?
1. get a Nikon RF body.
2. get an Amedeo S-to-M adaptor. I only have a M6.

What do you suggest? I'd really like to keep the costs to a minimum.

Thanks

it's an awesome lens --- get the ltm adapter and use it on your m6 - the p.c. is ltm

memphis: the lens is marked p.c. However, the mount is still a Nikon RF mount. so, the amedeo adapter will fit this? I don't mind a Nikon RF - to LTM adapter too.

memphis: it's chrome. if someone has a trade for it I'll be very happy. 🙂 Else, I think it's an adapter. The Nkion S bodies seem to cost as much as the adapter. I'll not need to get adjusted to another body.

Shane: my thoughts are in that direction too.

Anyone have an adapter for sale?

Sell it, buy an LTM version, Ashwin. There are plenty and in the end it is nicer to handle. You should get the LTM lens for about the price of an Amedeo adapter (less than US 300).

Unless of course you want to use it on your Nikon RF that you used to have.

Roland.

Roland. yeah, that is something I did consider. But, the hassle of having to sell it and searching for another lens is too much. I'd rather get the adapter. 🙂

That Nikon RF has passed on to someone, who is in turn, giving to his nephew joining a photography course in NY. It's funny how stuff passes hands...

Agreed, sell it. Buy the LTM
You can get them for $200 all day long Naruto
The LTM are nice and you can also use them to knock-out a camel,
if you ever find the need too.

Roland is right. Adapters adapt, they are not "natural". Nikkors in Leica screw mount are not hard to find. If I'd had enough money I'd have one now.

having been in this situation multiple times. Finding a lens and not having a body for it - I suggest you do what I usually do - buy a body! For the 85 - just get a S2 and a 85 finder (Canon's 85 finders are quite cheap). The rational is that one cant have too many bodies anyway - and the Nikon's are really nice!

hi folks thanks for all the input.
Mukul: I thought the adapters were supposed to make it easier to handle those lenses?
TomA: any spare bodies in your shelf? 🙂 I don't mind a user condition...
erik: the R2S was the first thing I looked up. but CQ only has the special edition.
Kiu: S3... *drool* don't tempt me.

Making something possible seldom makes it easier. This is a logical quagmire. Easier than what? The only answer possible is a lens that cannot be mounted.

I meant easier than operating it on a Nikon RF mount body. The only thing I disliked about it was the focusing operation. The on body Vs the lens barrel was driving me nuts. If I mount it on an adapter, then the focusing might be easier, this is what I assume. 🙂

Roland.

I'll second that recomendation. There's at least 4 LTM models on eBay right now. There's even a MIOJ version for $278 buy-it-now. The adapter is $320.

How will your adapter bring up 90mm frame-lines, Ashwin ?

hmm... I think I'll just use the approximate framelines. I am now leaning towards a second body. I might have an offer on a S3 2000 for a good price. *choices*

Or if you don't want to bother any longer I could buy if off you 🙂

You'll be the first to know if I decide to sell it off. I got it from James(DC), I must tell it was a pleasure dealing with him.

I once owned such a lens in LTM, but I sold it and kept a Nikkor 105mm 2.5 LTM instead. Some people prefer the 85mm lens and others swear by the 105mm Nikkor.

In your case, I would suggest to either sell the lens or to buy a camera body for it. A heavy and long lens somehow does not seem to be as solidly mounted with an adapter as a small wide angle or standard lens is. The other point, as Roland has pointed out, is the fact that you need the 85/90 frames in the VF.

You might have misunderstood, Ashwin: The adapter will bring up 50mm.

Of course an S3 is another matter 🙂
