I just bought up nearly 40 rolls of ACROS 100 from a local Meijer store. It was 07/2010 dated so they were clearing it out for $0.44 a roll. Can't beat that. Snagged some Sensia 100 for $0.79 a roll also.
I've never used this film before, I've been a devout user of Tri-X and Plus-X for many years.
What developer would be ideal for this film? I've got Acufine, Diafine, and Rodinol on hand, hoping one of these will work well.
Thanks!

Exactly!
I only invert two times every 4-minutes or so. This minimalistic agitation coupled with 100ASA produces smooth grain, and it doesn't turn the photo into grey.

I like Rodinal 1+50 too.

I haven't used the 100 in a while but do use and develop 400 in 120 format...
Rodinal 1+100 for 40 minutes, invert agitation 10 seconds every 4-5 minutes...

A question to Rodinal 1:50 users (to start setting my times for Acros100):
How longer or shorter in minutes do you develop your Acros100 compared to your Tri-X?
Thanks,
Juan

Diafine gives a speed of 200 with Acros. A quite soft negative but dead easy to scan.

Great to hear, I'll soup some in Rodinal, and try out some Diafine also.
At this price, it's temporarily replacing Plus-X in my kit.

Acros in Xtol 1:1 for ten minutes, 1 minute initial inversion, 10 sec. every minute after.

Rodinal 1:100 for 30 minutes. Two inversions. One at the start, one at 15 minutes. Make sure the water is below 20.

I've read this thread with interest. I've tried 100 Acros in Perceptol and it seemed a little flat. My attempts in Rodinal weren't quite as successful as those here.
Anybody have any suggestions for 35mm Acros in Rodinal?
Steve.

I tend to agitate very little with Rodinal and Acros. 13:50min is fine but I do only 30sec initial agitation and then only 4 inserts each 3 minutes.

What made your Acros/Rodinal experience less than a good one? Perhaps, a few details would be useful.

I develop it the same as the 20 size. Here's an acros photo from 35mm.

It is a flat film compared to the others I use; I mainly like it for very low light work where its ability to do very long multi-minute exposures with little reciprocity failure compensation is a godsend. For normal light, I get good tonality but it requires more careful curves adjustments in Photoshop on the scans. I've never printed this film in the darkroom so I can't comment on traditional printing and Acros.

I really like Acros100, it's one of my fav B&W films. It has a very unique profile IMO ... very fine grain, and a "clarity" to the tonality that I quite like.
I have used Ilfotec DD-X with Acros for a long time and always gotten quality results.
(please excuse the low-quality .jpg / .png image, the original looks much better... )

ACROS is my current favorite film for 35mm. I use the same dev's as others here. Rodinal 1:50 or XTOL 1:1. They don't look the same, but they both look wonderful. ACROS in Rodinal looks like the wonderful 35mm setup that it is. ACROS in XTOL 1:1 gives results that look almost like a 6x4.5 negative with tiny grain, smoooth tonality, and wonderful highlight gradation.

The first ones I did had a kind of 'flatness' to them. For some years I've used Delta 100 in Perceptol and had 'punchy' negs that are really straightforward to print on Ilford MGIV FB.
In contrast the Acros in Rodinal (and Percepetol) just lacked that contrast and were difficult to print. They seemed flat and required more magenta. The results that I have printed have gone up on the wall at home.
I'd just prefer something that prints like the superb images I've seen here. Figured I've been doing something wrong.
I want to master this film!
Steve.
