Anyone have much experience with Acros and Ilfotech DDX? Ive been shooting acros at 100 and processing in 1:4 DDX at 9 mins and keep getting pretty burned through blown out highlights. It looks sorta cool, but Id like to avoid it in the future. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?

thanks

In contrasty conditions it's best to shoot at a lower EI and reduce development. For instance shoot your Acros at EI50 and cut time by 20% (giving about 7.5 minutes). You could also look at reducing agitation if you want to keep using EI100.

9 minutes in DDX 1+4... that sound like overkill unless you are exposing 100 or higher.

I'd try with DDX 1+9 for about that time to start with

However, my personal favorite for Acros is Rodinal

I just did an exposure test and at 1:4, 9 mins, Im two stops hot. That was pretty suprising. I got the 9 minute start point from the masive dev chart.

Acros in Rodinal is awesome but ddx with a 70's cron is pretty awesome.

Acros is pretty intolerant of any overexposure. I never tried it in DD-X, but after trying several developers, I'll add another vote for Rodinal.

1:50 - 8 1/2 minutes, 1 tilt every 30 seconds.
1:100 (best results IMHO) - 18 minutes, 15 seconds agitation in each of the first 3 minutes and 1 tilt every 3 minutes after that.

2 stops! holy smokes!!!
is your thermometer calibrated? is good to chekc them against a good thermocuple or a mercury thermometer.
I guess your water is about 24C or so, or your meter is way off.

I think 40 oz is right, its just the developer, I figure that maybe 1:6 at 8 mins would be about right for box speed.

btw, I usually do 1:50 rodinal, tried acros tonight in rodinal at 1:100, the difference between the two dilutions is pretty intense, if you havent tried 1:100 you really should, Im really impressed.
