Acros and Rodinal

Really nice images - congratulations!

I have been thinking about giving Acros a try but was unsure as to what developer to pair with it. Looks like Rodinal is a good choice.

I've never cared for the contrast w/ Acros, but it seems the Rodinal has bumped the contrast quite a bit (always hard to tell for sure just by viewing a scan of course). The more I use that developer the happier I am. I've been getting really good stuff w/ Tri-X at 1:25, so I'm not surprised that a slower film did so well.

Giorgio, I exposed this Acros at 64. Developed in 1+50 Rodinal for 11 min, gentle agitation every 1.5 min for 5 seconds (roughly two twisting inversions and a rap on the bottom of the tank). Rest of it is pretty standard: 1 min stop bath with water, 5 min fix, final wash using Ilford method (fill tank three times with clean water and agitate 5, 10 and 20 times) and a 30 second swish in photo-flo.

I did a roll of Acros in Rodinal 1+50 recently as well, however I think I might try to bump up the contrast a bit by going to 1+25 next time. Have you tried this?

No, lawrence, I've yet to try 1+25. I suppose I will but I'm getting results I like now. Plus, it makes the Rodinal last longer. 🙂

ps what do you reckon happened to that tree?

Yes, rather weird that tree. One more question: have you tried Rodinal with TMX 100? Many years ago I used this film with Paterson Acutol, now sadly discontinued, but have yet to try it with Rodinal.

Very nice all. Seems to confirm my findings too, Acros in Rodinal is just brilliant. My favourite combination at the moment. EI-64-100, 1+50, 10 mins, three inversions every minute.
