When triy to use a Tamron SP 90 with a Nikon Adaptall 2 adapter (one with "ears") on my Nikkormat FTn something seems to be preventing the miror from flipping up. I press the shutter button and nothing happens. When I remove the lens, the shutter fires.

Is this just an indication that the Adaptall mount is incompatible with the camera or am I doing something wrong when I mount the lens? The camera works fine with my Nikkor H 50 mm f2 (non-AI) lens and my 43-86/3.5 AI lens.

I've used Tamron Adaptall 2 Nikon mounts (both with and without ears) on my FTn without any problems. Perhaps your mount is faulty. I've had a few of these mounts fail over the years, but not to the extent of jamming the camera.

Sounds like the adaptor might be allowing the rear of that particular lens to project too far into the body of the camera.
It's probably entirely unrelated but the FTn is getting on a bit and I recently replaced all the light seals and the pads that the mirror lands on in both my bodies. This is the second time in the life of the cameras, now about 45 years old, - the rubber had started to perish and had got sticky. It was affecting the return rate of the mirrors

When you flick the auto-diaphragm lever on the back of the lens/adapter, does the lens open and close the way it should? On some cameras, a stuck diaphragm can prevent the mirror from rising, which prevents the shutter from firing. If it's stuck, it may just be something about the way you put the adapter on, or perhaps something is bent on the adapter, either internally, or in its interaction with the camera.
