Adapted 35mm Sonnar lens for Fuji...

Just finished this up about an hour ago.

Nikon Pikaichi L35 lens in a modified Industar 69 in a modified L39 to Fuji adapter.

Boring proof of concept test shots..

I might be able to get the lens in deeper (closer to the aperture) if I can come up with a way of mounting the elements loose. Not sure if that would help with the vignetting or not. I don't mind it really as I think it makes the f5.6 pop more.

Infinity focus is fine too.

I did one using a heavily modified (Kiev) Jupiter-12 barrel with a solid mounted Leica M bayonet. RF coupling via cam with a machined ramp. I haven't seen any vignette at all on X-pro 1, no developed film shots yet. I think I turned the plastic blob holding the elements down to get as close to the aperture as I dared, there was some longitudal slack on the blades.. Just made some paper shims to measure distance to rear element, seems like it's about 0,81 mm.

Mine is a couple of mm away from the blades. I brought down the plastic on the lens but went to far on the first attempt and the elements came free. If I can get that one back together I can get it closer to the blades. That should reduce the vignette though it really isn't bothering me. The L35 vignetted too from the shots I have looked at.

Very nice; this lens is one of my favorites in a P&S camera and I have probably around 4-6 sitting around in broken cameras. I'd be interested in seeing if anyone has the gumption to make a CNC mount to drop in the element set...

I mounted an L35AF lens in a hacked Industar-50 mount. No RF coupling (well, no accurate RF coupling), but works great as a scale focus street shooting lens and focuses down to 0.45m. The lens mounts forward of the aperture with almost no clearance - it doesn't vignette at all, even wide open.

I have thought about it sometimes, having fiddled around with CNC machinery. The production run would have to be around 1000 to make any financial sense (that's to put the kit price tag in color-scopar territory. I know a solid gold Contax makes perfect sense to some.)

If it's a simple ~7-8 part assembly with rotating centre, basically it's 140 hours of machine time to make parts for one, 140,2 hours to make two.. Bayonet flange and aperture mecanism would be outsourced. Really hard to go crome, then again brass vs. alu would be irrelevant as material costs would be like 2-3%.

Lately I've had access to a CNC lathe that doesn't have to run to pay for itself or anyone, but I'm not sure if it can hold enough tools for the job to be sensible and can't certainly be set up to run large series. I might make some crazy collectible run of 5 lenses just so it can become a legend and I can sell a few "rare undiscovered NOS" ones on eBay when I'm old..

Or, if someone is willing to invest $20k for $10k loss, I'll draw you the parts pro bono just to watch the train wreck 🙄

The L35 vignetted too from the shots I have looked at.

The L35 blades don't travel along with focus, so vignette actually increases as the subject gets closer. They tried to minimize this, hence the rectangular aperture. As it's a nice camera for party or street shooting and portrait subjects are arm's length away, most shots have that "signature". I really like the look though as it's not so "corner-oriented" like with round apertures.
