Hi:

I would like to know if it's possible to use Leica M-mount or screwmount lenses on a SLR (I'm thinking in a Yashica FX3, Contax/Yashica mount) using an adapter... will the lens retain infiniy focus?...

Thanks and bests

No, infinity focus is not possible, as the M-mount is designed to have the lens much closer to the film.

There's a good reference here for the mount register distance for various systems.

Visoflex-capable M lenses can be used on an SLR and retain infinity. Such lenses begin at 65mm. Adapters for VisoM-to-EOS and VisoM-to-NikonF are available on eBay, but not C/Y.

I used Leica screw lenses on Canon FD bodies with the adapter made for the purpose. As Chris said, lenses will not focus to infinity: they behave as if an extension tube is fitted. The adapter is sitting unused, should anyone want it.
