Even though my Zorki 4 is unreliable [works one day, not the next] I find myself using it more than my Nikon F5 or N90s.
Why is this!?

Maybe you are doing more photography yourself than the camera does for you. ( At least, I think so) Changing shutter times, measuring the light, and changing apertures.

I think I like thats its small, manual, and a rangefinder. I've been using only a F5 for the past 4 months so it's nice to use something manual.

Manual cameras make you think about what you are doing, a healthy thing. Secondly, it's making something wonderful with a very minimal tool. Perhaps similar to my brother, the fly fisherman, who tries to catch the biggest fish with the lightest gear. Joe

I think about all the stuff even with a auto camera, and the difference is with the zorki I actually focus it, and with the Nikon I point it at what i want focused.

When I go to a walk with my Alpha gear, I always end up carying a huge bag with 3 lenses, filters, tripod, and a 1,5 kg camera around my neck. Try to enjoy the walk, and to pay attention to the motives around you loaded with gear.
When I take my Zorki, I have a spare roll of film in one pocket, sometimes a Jupiter 12 in the other pocket, and Zorki on a wrist strap. And life is beautifull..

I like the Zorki also, but I would prefer one with strap lugs..carrying by hand is a real bother! I enjoy using my Leningrad r/f with such a clear viewfinder and the Z1 is such a delight to carry in the hand it's not really a problem..though I love the J8 lens on it even if it is bulkier.

A bit off topic, but speaking of reliability of FSU cameras: yesterday i went for a trip in the mountains with DSLR gear. Temperature was 11 degrees C below zero. After 2 hours DSLR refused to work, shut down and frozen. Lucky I had my Kiev, so I didn't have to pack my gear and hit back home right away. Kiev was a little stiff...but so was I in -11
