Adding Film to Gallery List

Didn't want to hijack the corresponding lens thread; thus I started this new one. @Doug: Would you stick this one too?

Looking through the gallery film DB I didn't find any APS film types and I also miss some 135 film types I used. In the old gallery I added the film tags manually: Here we need a moderator's help. Maybe others are missing additional special film types too?

Here is the list of my film roll DB with types I need in the gallery to tag properly my uploads. Thank you in advance.

(Please use Fuji or Fujifilm as brand, whatever makes more sense to keep the film entries homogeneous)

Thanks for the suggestion and your list. I've done some digging online and added a bunch of APS films, trying to be a little general. I lumped Futura and Futura II together, and I believe all Kodak APS films carried the Advantix name. I also put in Polaroid, Ferrania, and Konica APS films, so that should be fairly well covered now I think.

Certainly open to corrections and additions of any films of any formats. 🙂

It is a good idea to melt the many similar types down to a common name.

Hi Doug, is Panatomic-X somewhere in the film list? Couldn't see it, but that might be male pattern blindness!

Ok, Lynn, thanks; we now have Panatomic-X in the film list. There is disagreement over the rated speed. Some note that it was ASA 32, but when I used it in the late 1960s the box speed was certainly 40. I see that it was discontinued in about 1987 so there was time for change!

Lynn, thanks for the suggestion... Ferrania P30 is now on the list.

The packaging for Ferrania P30 seems a bit odd... the notation on the box is: "ASA 80".
This old designation is "American Standards Association", an organization renamed in 1969 to ANSI: "American National Standards Institute". But film speed nowadays uses the ISO notation (numerically the same as ASA).
ISO - "International Organization for Standardization"

And also the old German standards notation for film speed is no longer used... DIN for "Deutsches Institut für Normung" which was commonly seen on film boxes back in the day. Still, I see a box of Ilford XP2 Super in my fridge noting the film speed as 400/27° with that last bit of course being a DIN number.

DIN was something those strange Europeans use.

What do you think about adding instant film types to the gallery film list? I'm playing with Instax Mini colour and monochrome at present, and a few other members are frequent users of various Polaroid and Instax films.

Charles - click on the "Show/Hide Photo Detail Editor" link under any of your photos in the gallery, that will bring up the form where you can add notes, camera etc.. one of the boxes is for film, it has a drop down menu from which you can select any of the film emulsions in the RFF database.

If your film doesn't appear in the database list, ask Doug to add it via this thread.

Mike, thanks for the suggestion. CMS 20 was already on the list, not sure if CMS 20 II is materially different to need a separate listing? Did add these:

Adox Silvermax 100 Black and White Film
Adox SCALA 160
Adox HR-50

Could you suggest a list to add, Lynn? I have to admit I'm not an instant film fan but do acknowledge it has a place! In the distant past I have favored Type 55 P/N for including a printable negative. I've also used Kodak Tri-X film packs in a Polaroid 180, 16 exposures 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 and the pack fits into an empty Polaroid pack. One pulls a tab to move the exposed sheet around to the back of the pack to result in a fresh sheet in front ready for the next shot. This is certainly not in accord with the instant-film credo! 😱
