there isn't any reason why i cant put the camera and rapidwinder in a changing bag add the rapidwinder mid roll - is there?
or have i missed something?

No reason that I can think off except the frame counter might reset.

Yes, you can put the Rapidwinder on in mid roll. You do need a cnanging bag to do this and with most M's you reset the film counter. The M2 works fine though as it has a manual film counter. You tend to loose a frame unless you perform the change with the camera uncocked and use the last frame as a starter for the winder. The two teeth on the drive of the Rapidwinder needs to be "clicked" in place prior to locking it on to the camera.
