First, it's fun! Results without the time and effort of film developing and wet darkroom work.
I love tweaking an image using SnapSeed on my iPad. I love being able to adjust iso sensitivity of each image. I love the hand held low light results without flash.
Too many buttons on the back that get pressed accidentally. Hopefully the ebay grip helps in this regard.

Nice!!
Now that you have both the XE1 and XE2 , can you say that the XE2 is a worth upgrade from the XE1?
I like snapseed too and use it on my phone.
It''s seems to me that it's becoming less destructive. Or maybe I'm just learning to use a lighter touch when using it.

Glad you're enjoying the experience, Frank.
The 'too many buttons' thing goes away over time, usually. After a couple of weeks, I hardly notice them.

If I knew then what I knew now, I wouldn't have bought the new xe2 body. I would be happy with the used kijiji xe1 body with 27 lens that I paid $200 plus a partial film gear trade. Then I'd have money left to buy the 18-55 zoom also from kijiji, and still have money left over.
When I eventually get the zoom, I'll just keep a lens on each.
The wifi transfer ability of the xe2 that i thought was essential, isn't, because of the Apple Camera Connector kit.
Specifically, its the 2 buttons below the exp. comp. dial on the back that are in the way. I also just ordered a $5 thumbs up.

Hi Frank,
Check out this blog entry; I think you'll find plenty of reasons to be glad you got the X-E2. Enjoy.

It's fine to set the XE to manual focus, ignore the little "A" Santa-helpers on the lens and speed dial, and adjust speed/aperture to suit your selected ISO + sunny 16 thinking--even switch off the chimp-review display--to create a more filmic flow to shooting.
I do this more with the (entirely manual) SLR Magic X 23 1.7 and adapted lenses, sure, but also with the XF 35 & 60 when I want to make all the executive decisions. ;-)

Frank,
A lot of people used to complain about this as well... Fuji listened and added a feature during one of their fw updates.
If u press and hold the center button down (can't remember how long, maybe 5-10 seconds) on your camera, the rear buttons in and around the menu/ok button are disabled. Not all buttons are disabled. Depends on camera model. Press and hold down again to re-enable.

That would be cool. Will look into it. Thanks!

Question: is there a downside to having face detect ON for non people photography?
BTW: I'm shooting just jpegs because I have no computer or software to process raw files.

Frank,
I never tried that.
But I suspect it could increase shutter lag as the system looks for a face before it gives up. The XE-1 uses contrast-based AF, so when the AF region has high contrast, there could be no significant delay when FD is on. The size of the AF box might play a role as well.

X-E1 is fine. Here is my review of the Fuji X.

BTW, they are going to touch screen next. Forget the button pushing problem you mentioned, pretty soon blowing on the cam with fudge up the settings. That is a big reason I prefer Leica. simplified perfection. Leica just needs a better sensor for the $.

As planned/hoped, I sold the used xe1 that I bought used on kijiji for its lens. So I'm down to just the one new xe2 with used 27mm lens, and I have almost enough for a used 18-55. (I really want the aperture ring which the 16-50 lacks.)

Looks like I may have 2 fuji digitals again. I have a line on a kijiji xm1 with 16-50 lens for $225.
Adjusting now to xe2 and xm1.

While I really wanted the 18-55 lens for its aperture ring and closer focusing distance, sometimes you have to go with the flow. I placed a kijiji WTB ad for the 18-55 lens offering $350 and got 2 responses but they were both quite a distance away.
Instead, I responded to a closer kijiji ad for an xm1 with the 16-50 lens, and offered $225 which was accepted. I figured that was a good deal, considering that a Toronto camera shop has a 16-50 lens alone for $200 plus tax.
I have a grip coming for the xe2 from ebay, so the xe2 with zoom will be my normal/main combo, while the xm1 with tilting screen and 27 lens will be my compact/street combo.
So this, including Leica adaptors from Joe, is my digital kit.

In memorial to 2 film cameras (plus cash) that gave up their ownership of me to facilitate this addition of digital: a Nikon F3 with motor drive and 50E lens, and a fuji GW670ii.
