Adobe ACR to DNG converter

Please enlighten me. What does this separate DNG converter do that simply choosing to convert to DNG on import to LR 4.1 not do? Is there some sauce in the settings used in the separate Adobe DNG converter?

Nothing really. The "MAJOR BIG THING" is that the resulting DNG can be opened in versions of PS and LR that are too old to support the newer versions of ACR.

Are you sure that this is valid for every camera? Someone here tried to feed the X-Pro DNG files to Aperture but it didn't work although Aperture supports other DNG files.

Eh, this is for Lightroom, not Aperture…

Yes, for Lightroom but it doesn't work with Apple's Aperture.
