I had a hard drive crash yesterday and had to buy a new computer. The new machine has Vista and the old one was an XP system.
I load CS3 with Bridge onto the new machine and now the thumbnails will not open. I see the metadata but the thumbnail area just has the "PS" image and the file name. I have tried downloading the latest patch from Adobe. :bang::bang::bang: Please HELP:bang::bang::bang:
I hate computers!!!!!.

I know CS4 is backward compatible with XP and of course VISTA. But it looks like CS3 may not be compatible with VISTA. Have you tried downloading an update from Adobe for CS3? If there is not one available then you may have to update CS3 to CS4.

I had this exact same problem. It's because Vista has two folders where Photoshop can look for plugins and ONE of those folders still has an outdated version of Camera Raw.

One folder is:
C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Plug-Ins/
and the other is:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats

Make a copy of the latest version of Camera Raw, probably from the first folder, then make sure the new version is in the second folder as well and there 's NO copy of the old version of Camera Raw in either.

That fixed it on my system.. oh yeah... reboot after that I think just for good measure

I found out what the problem was. for some reason Vista was putting all of my new photos in a folder on the desk top???? I will be glad when Windows 7 gets here!
Thanks for the efforts.
