I thought this was too good to be true, it turns out it's only available to the online subscribers to Lightroom so limits it's use. It didn't say that on the video introduction that Adobe has put out, I found this out via the forums.

Yep, it's a Trojan horse for the subscription model, which is a deal-breaker for me. Adobe 's profits have halved since they switched, but they have been rewarded for it by Wall Street:

This increases the odds that at some point in the near future they will declare victory, and can Lightroom licenses as well. I need to look at contingency plans like DarkTable.

Unless I can download a working version of software onto my computer / laptop / tablet, etc. I'm not interested. I don't always work in places where there's internet connection (whether it's cable, landline or WiFi. therefore, I REALLY object to the likes of Adobe trying to tempt or force us into their online offerings. No internet, no programme. Doesn't work for me - and I'm NOT a pro photographer but I do travel a fair bit with my camera.

I don't think this is correct. Under the new subscription model, which I am thinking of taking up for an introductory offer of $9.95 per month, the programmes, Lightroom 5 and Photoshop, are downloaded to your hard drive and are available when you are not connected to the internet. Adobe advertised this concept badly at the outset and have done little to woo the disaffected other than offer these introductory prices.

So far Adobe Lightroom Mobile is a useful way to for LR users to edit (not process or render) and sequence photographs for a series, a project or even select a photos for submissions. You don't have to be tied to your work area to view, contemplate or make editing and sequencing decisions.
Once a LR Collection is synced (transfered to the iPad App via your CC account) you no longer need internet access to view and rank the images.
I completely get that people want nothing to do with having their work stored on-line. I also understand the criticisms of subscription licensing vs perpetual licensing. For those of us who are comfortable with these, the Lighroom Mobile App can be a useful tool.
It saves me time as I don't have to:
o manually export images from LR (or any other desktop/laptop software)
o import them into the iPad
o and then manually implement my decisions on my main computer.
Because the task is convenient, I am more likely to edit and sequence... and this is good for me.
