perfect standard developer concerning granularity and a well balanced gray scale. Hard to do anything wrong, even with faulty exposures, within limits... - especially if used in delution 1:2
b/w in my gallery is all ATM 49
Definitely experiment a little though. I started on 1:2 for Neopan, moved to TMY2 1:2, and then discovered that 1:1 works better for me with TMY2. Can't comment on Neopan.
My original reason for using this developer was that it seems the best at taming the highlights in Neopan, which seemed to "white out" in strong sunlight, even when underdeveloped. ATM49 solved most of that problem for me. Switching to TMY2 has made me a happier bunny in the end.

This is what I've read elsewhere, good to hear others have seen this effect as well. I'm shooting in the woods, so the contrast range is incredible- any help I can get at closer to box speed will be fine by me.

If you can get it FX-39 is very, very good in this regard, esp with Neopan 400 which has a shoulder anyway. Xtol 1+1 with agitation every two minutes helps congtrol highlights a touch when pushing too. I find this a very gentle developer.
I've not had as good results with XTOL with daylight shot films as I do when shooting under tungsten. XTOL was my standard for a long time with Delta 100 under studio lights. When I moved outside again I found XTOL to be a bit dull overall. I'll look into FX-39.
