I've shot some Adox CHS 50 35mm that I rated at 50 ASA.. I am going to develop it in Rodinal and would like to develop 1 + 50. Digital truth only shows times for 1 + 25 or 1 + 100 dillutions for ASA 50.. There is a time for ASA 40 1 + 50 at 9 minutes-- I suppose the difference between rating film at asa 50 or asa 40 might not be that big a difference.. Should I use the 1 + 40 time? Should I make any adjustments? What are the results @ 1 + 25? Any comments or observations would be helpful..

Oren - I use Rodinal 1:100 for Adox CHS 50 ART. These were taken in flat light (gray winter day) and exposed at EI 50. 18 mins (at 20C), gentle inversions for first 30 sec, then 2 inversions every 3 mins until time is up. I use a water stop, then my normal fix, rinse, and photoflo.

I certainly can't say 1:100 is "best." I've only shot a few rolls of CHS 50 Art myself.

But while pondering the same question about what dilution of Rodinal to use (and surfing the web), I happened to across Hans ter Horst's web site and his film development chart for CHS Art films at this link:

I simply followed his recommendations. And, liked what I got.

Efke films are doing well in Rodinal 1+50 - 1+100 but at box speed or slightly less (1/3F stop). You will loose always some speed in this Para-Amino Phenol developer but Efke you can better push till +1F then pull.
Box speed or +1F push you can do easily in Beutler A+B (or FX-1) or Tetenal Neofin Blue (Blau).

These Metol type developers are reacting very good on the single layer type emulsion of Efke films. Very sharp and high acutance.
FX-1 is a modified Beutler with maximized acutance to add a very small amount of Potassiumiodide (KI).

Good and timely information. I am about to try CHS 50 and I have nothing else other than Rodinal.

Yeah - I also just got some to try, and planned on souping it in Rodinal. I figured that I'd just rate it at 40 instead of the box speed.
