Adox HR-50 - Post your Images!

This film has very particular agitation instructions. How many labs are going to be able to do this?

Labs can always modify contrast by altering development time. Most labs have moved to either continuous agitation or developing by hand, so at some it might be possible

Akso, until we see it, let’s not assume that the Leica film is HR-50 and not just plain Aviphot Pan 80 until we trial it. As @FotohuisR pointed out “made in Germany” might just mean labelled and boxed there.

Cinestill is out of stock again.

Adox was founded in 1860

Adox was the brand name of DuPont. They were using the single layer type film from Dr. Schleussner (Germany), at that time equal or better then Agfa films. DuPont sold the who factory beginning 70's to Croatia Efke-Fotokemika and they have produced their Efke single layer films on Polyester layer in iso 25-50-100 and I.R. films till August 2012 when their airco systems were completely finished and there was no money for further investments due to the risk of a declining market. So they have stopped.

Du Pont bought the Adox name from the German company, Fotowerke Dr. C. Schleussner GmBH of Frankfurt am Main, the world's first photographic materials manufacturer. Schleussner and Wilhelm Röntgen invented the X-ray plate.

Bought few rolls of HR-50 and tested with LLB Z21 new lens (50/1.5).
(Self Made) DDX 1+4, 8 mins
All printed on Ilford Classic Fiber paper.
Very high resolution film, easier to use than CMS 20.

I like these photos a lot! My ADOX HR-50 arrived, so I'm looking forward to doing some experiments with it. 🙂

BTW: After capturing to digital, you should set the white balance on the border to get a more reasonable photo to view. The yellow tone is distracting.

Rollei Retro 80s, exposed at 50 and developed in FX-39 following the HR-50 times. Very similar results. The negatives are a bit dense due to a little overdeveloping and a slight raise in the temperature. This should be the version without the speed boost (pre exposure). But I can hardly notice the difference. Both Adox and Rollei are very specific about which developers to use.

The emulsion and film look similar, and the same dyes come out during the developing process.

Edit: Both films are based on the same Agfa Aviphot 80 emulsion and have the same spectral sensitivity.

I was going to try to get a couple of rolls of HR-50 but it currently seems to be out of stock everywhere in the UK.

Same in the USA when I first looked. Then I found that CineStill had gotten some in, so now I have four rolls to experiment with. That's enough for the moment.

What I'm really waiting for is a new batch of Ferrania P33 to come in. I like that film a lot, and ISO 160 is more useful when you always fit either a green or orange filter... 🙂
