Adox HR-50 - Post your Images!

I think Adox Hr-50 is Scala 50 and it's primarily suitable for reversal b&w slides.
Using it as a pictorial film doesn't make much sense to me, due to the availabilty of proper b&w pictorial film.
If need be I'd suggest to send the film to Harman Lab to be developed and scanned/printed.

I like HR-50. Very sharp, fine grain, extended red sensitivity up to near infrared. Good anti halation. Yes, it has high contrast and low exposure latitude. For development I use Adox XT-3 in dilution 1+3, 16 Min.

With red filter you need to open 1 f-stop only.

I would love to have it available in 120, but this wish seems not to be served by Adox.

You can get Retro 80s from Rollei in Medium format and shoot it a 50 ISO. It's the same film without the speed boost. You may loose a little bit of shadow detail, but I haven't noticed any big difference so far. It's even said RPX-25 is the same film too. I'm trying out a roll of RPX-25 at ISO 50 now to be developed as HR-50 in FX-39.

Have you any sense as to what sort of compensation it needs with yellow or orange filters? Is it also around a third of the typical quoted?

I have 3 rolls of ADOX HR 50, refently bought from a local lab- who unfortunately only devs B&W in D76- NOT recommeded for this film stock. so I'm on the hunt for a lab who can do this film justice.

I'm super nervous about my shots being too contrasty- something I went thru wth Ferrania P30- even thos I sent it to Blue Moon Cameraa who supposedly worked with FIlm Ferrania to sort a developer/process for the film specifically. As you an see here, the shadows/blacks are completely blacked out, the highlights are boosted beyond anything reasonable. I sure do not wish to have my ADOX scans looking this bad. ANy recommendations for a lab to send this out to would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can't help with a lab recommendation as I have always and only processed my own B&W negatives.

I found with Ferrania P30 that normal development always produced negs that were too contrasty, exposed at ISO 80 and developed in HC-110 at 1:49 dilution from concentrate. To solve that, I dropped to ISO 25, mix my HC-110 at 1:99, and increase development by 50% (14 minutes instead of 9 minutes). That gave me much more usable results with a normal gamma and better shadow detailing.

I suspect the same will be true of ADOX HR 50. I bought a few rolls to experiment with but have not had the occasion to work with it yet.

Your picture looks severely underexposed. Remember you are dealing with negative film: independently of the developer, you have to give the film enough exposure. You should, at least, double your exposure times, that is, divide by 2 your E.I.. Probably, it is going to be better if you multiply by 4 the exposure times (set your meter to 12ASA). The best way to be sure is bracket your shots: one at 50 (but, unless the scene is very low in contrast, this is not going to work), one at 25 and one at 12. Develop normally.

Adox HR50 has NOT been too contrasty nor over-exposure prone. My results, with Ilford DD:X and normal EI=50 with normal times and agitation have consistently resulted in excellent negatives … and post-processing was normal for me.

I have nothing but positive experiences with this film.😉

I like the landscape and in fact all the pictures of "things not moving" but am surprised it's marketed as a street film. Surely the speed goes against that and is the opposite of what you want to capture people moving.
I'm looking for guidance here so please do reply.
