advance lever broken- what to do?

Hello guys,

I just came back home from a 2 1/2 day trip to Berlin, where I also took with me my trusted Leica M4 camera.
After some hours in the cold and shooting two rolls Tri-X, suddenly the advance lever did not work properly anymore.🙁

Normally you advance and then you feel kind of tension towards the right side so that you can not move it further.
My camera now has the fault that the advance lever is moving all the way up to the right edge (while advancing/coking the shutter properly), but then there's no tension and it will stay there until I move it back by hand. This is not normal!

So, do I need the customer service/ a repair man? What may it cost to fix? Please help me...

Sounds like trouble with a spring. Look at the "basic service" PDF on the pentax-manuals site. Or ask me for it: uthappam AT gmail DOT com.

eww, that sounds ugly. I've never had any trouble with the advance mechanism of my M4, nor did I hear of something similar before 🙁 but it might be some spring that messed up indeed... good luck, florian

Thanks for the kind words. I think I'll give Mr Reinhardt a call tomorrow to hear what he thinks (also about costs).

@Simon: sorry for not contacting you again before the weekend, but I did not know about our schedule for saturday and sunday. Otherwise we could have visit Wedding or so toghether.
