I've accepted a position at Sarah Lawrence College (in Bronxville/Yonkers) and so will be moving to the Westchester county area sometime this summer. I've been an active part of the RFF group in the SF Bay Area for the past several years, and would love to make the transition to the NYC crowd. Plus, I've never even visited NYC and would welcome any chance to explore alongside long-term denizens...errr, resident-photographers. So I'm saying "Hey" and look for me around July or August.

We have a meet-up faithfully every month. Keep an eye out for the threads! The next one is this Sunday the 27th if you will be here.

See you there and welcome to NY :)

Cool. We meet-up monthly at a few different bars and always welcome others to come and join us. I'm not sure if you know Darren from around your area, but he joined us a few times while he was in NYC for the summer. Some of us even get together to photograph. Let us know when you are in town.

My wife and I are going to be in the area Thurs-Sat to do some pre-move reconnaissance, but sadly we're flying back early Sun. morning.

It's good to hear that people get together every month. I will definitely be interested in joining regularly!

I do indeed know Darren. In fact, I commented to him just the other day that the NYC forum seemed to have little traffic, to which he replied that the group is very active but seems to do most of its organizing via regular email. He was very enthusiastic about everyone he met there, so I thought I'd poke my head in here and say "hey".

Say hello to Darren and welcome.

A few of us tried to ruin Darren, teaching him all theses New York bad habits and special lessons in being abrupt, pushy and rude, so that his work would send him back here to get rid of him, but it didn't work. LOL.

Last time I saw Darren was on the west side by FIT and he seemed so much like a outa control New Yorker in a rush- multitasking. LOL.

Come to a Meet-Up when you can. What are you going to be teaching at Sarah Lawrence?

Cal

Hah! I'd love to see an aggro Darren -- he is normally so mild mannered that that would be fun to see!

Rest assured (or be forewarned?) that I'll be at the first meet up once I've moved.

Technically I'll be teaching "Asian Studies", but primarily modern Chinese history.

Darren was such a nice guy that a few of us decided to toughen him up a bit. It was kinda fun beating on him a bit. LOL.

When he first got together with a group of us to go shooting he sucessfully brushed off a pick pocket who was targeting him in Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Finally, the Bay Area group will be free of Papercut!

NYC club, consider this post as a warning....

;)

(One of these days I gotta figure out how to quote multiple posts in one reply post.)

Thanks, Jamie. It's been a lot of work, but the end result is good and I'm very content.

Kevin,
CONGRATULATIONS!! Wow... quite a change from sunny climes of Marin! Best wishes for a smooth move out East.

key word being "another" -- I'm perfectly happy being a wackjob as long as I'm not alone! :D

You won't be alone. Its one of the reasons why we only get together only once a month because its too much fun.

Tell me if having a Second Annual Leica M-Body Beauty Pagent isn't wacked. Truth is that we mostly make fun of ourselves and laugh a lot. Also its a bit of a mob so no one can really get outa line.

IMHO people who don't know or understand enough about themselves to know they are wacked are really the crazy ones.

Cal,

Sounds like I will fit right in -- my only other hobby (besides photography) is laughing at myself. Looking forward to moving out there more and more!

We'll try to schedule the March meet up for when you are here.

Im sure you can arrange that with any of the big labs: Duggal, L&I. Those are two you can start with.
