Hello.

Until I can get my hands on a PS100G, I would like to use a manual flash. I am not clear if I can just use any ol' manual flash or if there is risk to damaging my SP.

Has anyone had a good experience with a flash (small-ish preferably) that is readily available? ...and if so, what brand? What are the characteristics do you experience with the flash you use.

By chance, does anyone use the Fuji EF-X20 flash on their SP?

Thanks.
Brandon

I would probably....

I would probably....

See this listing on eBay...

This is the low profile dedicated flash for the OM-1, with a manual override. I would probably use this with an Oly 35SP. It's around the same era, and I would think the trigger circuit would be applicable. It is triggered by the hot shoe, but has a synch cord which attaches under the lens on the front. I'd hope to get the synch cord, but as I recall, I believe the 35SP shoe is hot. It would keep the profile down on the camera.

I've used many different auto setting and manual flashes with my Olympus 35RC. You should be able to use any PC or hotshoe flash with your camera. My favorite small flash is the Vivitar 2600 and 2800, one has a movable head. My Minolta 320x is my go to larger flash: three auto settings, controllable manual settings, and completely movable head. I haven't paid more than $25 for any of them.

Fill flash with the Vivitar 2600:

You have picked a great camera for flash use. You have full control of aperture and speed and it is synced to the highest shutter speed. The 35RC has Flashmatic which is really a good feature maybe yours does too. If it does read up on it, or ask me. In my opinion, the Flashmatic feature is easier and more accurate than most TTL flashes.

xstntl, I use a 35RC with an old Vivitar "45" flash unit. The flash is very small and also has a sync cable. It functions on 1 AA battery. I found it years ago at a yard sale, box, instructions and all. $2 bucks.
It has served the 35RC very well over the yrs.
Have fun,
