Hi, I don't have much knowledge about Leica lenses, so would like to hear some advice from you.

I have Elmar-C 90/4 without a front cap. I am considering to buy a front cap which can be attached on the rubber collapsible hood. Is there such a replacement front cap?

I think it may be good to have a filter for the protection of the lens. Which filter would you recommend? As far as I researched, it seems that series 5.5 filter may be placed before the hood is on the lens. KEH have some series 5.5 filters but I have no idea about the description "85N3" "85N6."

My apology for the ignorance of the specification for the lens I have...

I appreciate your suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the lens cap but I use standard 39mm screw-in B+W filters on my 90mm Elmar-C, including keeping a UV on it at all times. The difference between a series 5.5 and the 39mm is the pitch of the threads only. A 39mm will screw into the threads partially but enough to be solid and stable.

If you cannot locate a lens cap to fit the rubber hood and you use a 39mm UV filter, a clip-on or screw in 39mm lens cap will fit perfectly in the filter.

The filter size 5.5 of the Elmar C 90 mm f/ 4 (and the Summicron C 40 mm f/ 2) correspond to the 39x0.75 size, while the current 39 filter/lens hood size is the 39x0.50 (B+W, Heliopan or Hoya).
Ciao.
Vincenzo
